Alpine Meadows
Saturday 30 November 1991

Weather

Bitterly cold but sunny. Windy at higher elevations keeping Summit lift closed.

Conditions

Mostly man-made snow. 5 lifts (out of 9) plus 1 poma open. Snow making continuing throughout day.

The Story of the Day

The early season conditions made some of the runs more interesting than they would normally be. In particular, the main run from the Roundhouse chair normally fills with snow and is groomed flat. At this time of year, there was good covering, but it was only partially groomed and offered a half-pipe kind of profile and some soft bumps.

After some general exploring, I spent quite a lot of time on the Kangaroo slope, just practising parallel turns.

Easy Runs

Tiegel - only route back to bottom from Weasel

Intermediate Runs

Weasel - broad intermediate slope. Groomed, but with icy patches even at the start of the day. Not complete .. some poling needed at foot.
Kangaroo - racing slope. Well groomed with fresh man made snow. Slick patches by mid morning.
Rock garden - steep, groomed, short slope from top of Roundhouse chair to other runs.
Red-Green - incomplete, diversion to foot of Green trail. Groomed, some steep sections
Red - not groomed, some new man-made snow. Some soft moguls. No flat section, V profile.

Runs

Lift Vertical
